Everything you need to know when looking at Sectional Couches or Sofas
A Leather Sectional Sofa is best described as multiple sofa, loveseat or chair pieces that join together to form a seating layout that is not possible to create with a single leather sofa. Often a Sectional Couch will take up the same footprint as typical sofa paired with loveseat, but more effective use of seating space because there is seating in the corner area where there might otherwise be a side table separating two pieces. Modular Sectional Sofas are configurations in which a higher quantity of smaller leather furniture pieces are used, offering the ability to arrange the sectional couch into multiple different layouts.
Sectional Couches can be built in all shapes and sizes but the most common configuration would be two sectional pieces that connect together to form a ninety degree angle.
We call a sectional couch or sofa an L Sectional when one side is longer than the other. If done as two pieces, we use a Corner Sofa (forms the arm on one end and the corner area on the other) paired with a single arm sofa. When done as 3 pieces, we use a corner wedge, paired with a single arm sofa and a single arm love seat.
We call a sectional sofa a Corner Sectional when both sides are the same length. 2 piece corner sectionals are built using a Corner Sofa (forms the arm on one end and the corner area on the other) paired with a single arm love seat. A 3 piece version would use a corner wedge with a single arm love seat on each side.
An L Sectional Sofa with Chaise is usually about the largest of sectional couches you can order with us. Usually made up of 3 pieces, this configuration is similar to the L Sectional Sofa, just with a chaise on the long side of the sectional. Configured using a single arm chaise, armless loveseat and a corner sofa.
One of the most popular configurations for sectional couches here at LeatherGroups.com is a layout referred to as a Sofa Chaise Sectional. This is made up of a single arm chaise (Left arm or Right arm) paired up with a single arm love seat or sofa. This is probably the closest sectional configuration to a standard leather sofa.
This configuration resembles the Sofa Chaise Sectional, but instead of merely having an arm down the length of the side of the chaise, Bumper Sectional Couches feature a continuation of the backrest, which creates additional seating down along the chaise. The chaise on this type of sectional couch is also typically longer.
The most versatile of all, Modular Sectional Couches are put together using a higher quantity of smaller pieces. Most will be made up of a combination of Corner Chairs, Single Arm Chairs (for ends) and Armless Chairs, offering the ability to re-arrange and use the pieces in more than one configuration
A description of some of the types of pieces we use to configure our leather sectionals.
(Right Arm Facing or Left Arm Facing)
Sectional Sofa piece with an arm on one side and a continuation of the back section on the other end that forms the corner area of a sectional.
(Right Arm Facing or Left Arm Facing)
This would probably be best described as a "single arm sofa", having an arm only on one end.
(Right Arm Facing or Left Arm Facing)
Also a single arm piece, just in a love seat size.
A corner sectional piece that a variety of sectional pieces can be connected to. Simply creates a corner (and 90 degree turn). *often used in modular sectional sofa layouts

A Sectional piece used as an end piece, sort of like the sofa and loveseat versions of this sectional piece, just shorter. Usually a single seater. *often used in modular sectional sofa layouts

Check out examples below of some of our customer favorites. We can build any of the styles below in any sectional layout imaginable.
The Braxtons are some of our most popular Sectional Sofas. This style leans toward the contemporary side, with track arms, square block feet and clean, straight lines and is available in a number of different configurations.
Our Langston Leather Sectionals are available in a number of different layouts and feature a classic, traditional look with roll arms, welting around the edges of the cushions and rounded bun feet.
Our Arizona Sectional Sofa features biscuit-tufted seat cushions, with taller, tapered legs and welting detail around the edges of the seat and back cushions. The tufted cushions give it slightly more firmness than our standard seats.
The Oscar is a close cousin to our Arizona Leather Sectional, but with it's lower edge stretching closer to the floor with smaller legs, clean cushions with no tufting, and baseball stitch instead of welting on the cushion and arm edges.
The beauty of the Bonham is the the simplicity. This style has integrated tight seats and backs with Reverse seam edges and thick shelter track arms. Our Bonham Sectional couches can be configured many different ways.
Our Julien is available with several different types of arms, the track arm being one of them. This Bumper Sectional allows for extra seating with a continuation of the back of the sofa along the side of the chaise portion.
The standout feature with the Reno Leather Sectionals are the pillow top style cushions, but this sectional sofa cuddler version is a favorite because of the unique (and cozy) curved end seating portion.
Our plush Reno in a Sectional with Chaise layout. This is very similar to the cuddler sectional in that this version is configured by using the same sofa portion we use for our Reno Cuddler Sectional.
The modular version of the Reno offers the most flexibility when configuring your sectional couch and in the varied layouts customers can enjoy just by re-configuring the position of the various modular sectional sofa pieces.
